Mallorca Championships has confirmed the presence of Stan Wawrinka in the tournament after awarding a wildcard to the three-time Grand Slam champion. The Swiss player did not have any confirmed grass-court entries so far, but Mallorca becomes his first destination on the surface in the middle of his retirement season.
The Spanish tournament will feature a more than interesting draw for an ATP 250 event, adding notable names that, despite being far from their best moment, still carry an enviable résumé and reputation on the tour. Alongside the wildcard for Wawrinka, an invitation was also confirmed for Stefanos Tsitsipas, who after falling in the rankings failed to enter the main draw via direct acceptance.
The tournament—scheduled to be played from June 17—will have Kazakh Alexander Bublik as the main favourite, joining names such as Luciano Darderi, Alejandro Davidovich, Frances Tiafoe, and Alejandro Tabilo.
Also standing out in the draw is the wildcard granted to Nick Kyrgios, who had been confirmed months ago as part of the tournament. The Australian is preparing for his first tournament in six months, debuting this Tuesday in Stuttgart Open against Corentin Moutet, and will immediately play his second event in Mallorca.

Wawrinka’s uncertain grass schedule and post-Roland Garros plans

Wawrinka had raised doubts about the schedule he would follow during the grass swing weeks after his elimination at the French Open. The Swiss—2014 Roland Garros champion—last played in the Paris tournament, delivering a solid first-round performance against Jesper de Jong, although he was eventually eliminated in four sets (3-6, 6-3, 3-6, 4-6).
It was apparently his last appearance on clay courts, considering that his retirement is expected at the end of the season, with Wawrinka announcing that he will play his final tournament at the Geneva Open in October. The former world No. 3, however, admitted he was not clear about his grass-court schedule, especially given that a Wimbledon wildcard appeared difficult from the outset—something that will still be decided in the coming days when the organisation allocates the eight invitations in its possession.
While Wawrinka waits to find out whether he will finally receive a wildcard for the third Grand Slam of the year, he has added a new event to his calendar, joining the Mallorca Open next week, an announcement made this Tuesday during the pre-tournament press conference.
Stan Wawrinka hits backhand.
“Hello everybody, I'm very happy to finally play at the Wanda Pharmaceutical Mallorca Championship,” Wawrinka said in a video. “Competing on grass in such a beautiful setting is truly special for me. I love the island and I'm really looking forward to this week. I hope to see you all at the Mallorca Country Club.”
The wildcard for Wawrinka—currently world No. 110—was announced alongside Stefanos Tsitsipas, former world No. 3 and Mallorca champion back in 2022, who after his early Roland Garros exit dropped in the rankings to No. 84. Both names are joined by Nick Kyrgios, the first wildcard of the tournament, confirmed months ago and marking his second grass-court event of the season.
The tournament has been held since 2021 and will celebrate its 6th edition this time. The defending champion is Tallon Griekspoor, confirmed as part of the draw. The Dutchman defeated Frenchman Corentin Moutet in the 2025 final—another of the names that will be present on Spanish courts.
