Stefanos Tsitsipas decided against playing in the
Paris Masters and also won't be present at his home event in Athens, something which has not sat right with tennis fans especially as he took money from the Six Kings Slam to play in the event mere weeks ago.
Tsitsipas run at the Six Kings Slam saw him lose 6-2, 6-3 and days later he announced his withdrawal from the upcoming Paris Masters. He shared a note confirming that he will instead be focusing on his recovery for the 2026 season.
Tsitsipas has barely played all Autumn and suddenly turned up in Saudi Arabia to play the event which saw more money for a win than the Grand Slams hand out but while some see it as a good opportunity to earn easy money a bit like playing in the ATP Finals injured, others saw it as a bit of a farce that he could play in that but not Paris and in particular Athens.
Athens also known as the Hellenic Championships is a tournament ran by Novak Djokovic previously taking place in Belgrade and likely would've taken in the Greek in his home country but given he is focusing on 2026 now, he is unlikely to take his spot something which has also annoyed fans.
"Hi everyone, I'll be withdrawing from the Rolex Paris Masters this year. I've always enjoyed competing there and truly appreciate the great support from the Parisian and French fans over the years. My focus now is on recovery and healing, so I can come back stronger for the 2026 season. Thank you all for your understanding and continued support," wrote Stefanos Tsitsipas.
"You would have played if they were giving you $1.5 million for participation," a user on X commented in response to Tsitsipas deciding to release a statement ending his season. "You could play in Saudi though. Bet that money was sweet."
Another used Athens also as a bit of a reason to bash him saying that it hurts more for his own people that he decided not to play in that event. "I don’t blame him but he decided to play the six kings slam over playing in front of his own people. This might be the only time ever Athens has an event."
Another issued their dismay. "I truly think your love for the sport is fading. That's a shame because you had so much potential but it is your choice at the end and i respect it. You are far away from the tennis player you were 2 years ago. You need help and support. I wish you the best whatever you do."
Tsitsipas earned 1.5million dollars for playing in the Six Kings Slam and this year he lost in the first round against Alex Michelsen. Following the Australian Open, he was defeated by Matteo Gigante. He also got bundled out by Valentin Royer at Wimbledon.
Tsitsipas's final appearance came at the US Open where he lost in the second round to Daniel Altmaier. Pretty poor effort from Tsitsipas who becomes the latest to end their year early.,
