Young Greek Tsitsipas stretched his series of lost matches to number 3 when he lost 6-4, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (6) to Struff.
Stefanos Tsitsipas played at a Montreal tournament after an unsuccessful semifinal appearance in Washington. There he was unable to beat Hurkacz in the first round, so he was hoping to break this mini-series in Cincinnati.
But Tsitsipas extended the series at the Western & Southern Open when he lost his third match in a row. The Greek was not playing good enough to beat Jan-Lennard Struff. Now he can start preparing for the US Open, sooner than he had expected.
In the first set, both players held their serve for quite a long time. They did well until the seventh gem, when Struff managed to break his opponent's service. Subsequently, he did not lose a point on his service and won the first set 6-4.
From the German's point of view, the second set also developed very well, when he managed to break the Greek right in the first game. Struff seemed to finish off the match when he led 5-4 and 30-0. But Tsitsipas, he fought, made a few incredible shots and won the second set in a tie-break 7-5.

But even in the last set Struff had the upper hand. He managed to win 95% of the points after his first service, which Tsitsipas failed to deliver. It was only a matter of time before Jan-Lennard managed to break Tsitsipas's service.
This did not happen, so the match resulted in the tie-break of the third set, which struck Struff on his side when he converted the fourth match ball.
In the next round, Struff will be facing Medvedev, who is currently playing in a very good form. If Struff succeeds, he will reach his career-high in the ATP ranking.
