Lleyton Hewitt has been inducted into the Australian Tennis Hall of Fame and has been immortalised with a bronze bust and has got his wish which he said in late October when it was announced. Hewitt had his ceremony on Wednesday at the Australian Open and his bust had his signature backwards cap.
The former World No.1 joked when he announced that he wanted it to have a backwards cap as then no-one would be like him in the rest of the Hall of Fame. But there aren't many like the eccentric Aussie in a glittering career.
“It’s a great honor to be inducted into the Australian Tennis Hall of Fame, following in the footsteps of some of my great Australian idols,” Hewitt said initially on being announced into this class. “I’ve always been such a proud Australian and loved the rich tennis history we have in our sport.” He will now join 46 other greats of Australian tennis in having a bronze bust placed in the Garden Square at Melbourne Park.
This after a career that featured 30 ATP singles titles and also two Davis Cup wins for Australia as well as 80 weeks at World Number One. He has served as captain of the Davis Cup team since 2016 and has passed on his backward cap sense to his son Cruz who played in the Juniors at this Australian Open.
