Carlos Alcaraz has taken a different and more honest tact when it comes to the reasons for playing the
Six Kings Slam in Riyadh where he lost in the final to Jannik Sinner. But in reality, he said it was used as a money maker.
Jannik Sinner said the opposite saying that he didn't play for money and so seriously despite earning $6m for winning it which is double some of his Grand Slam wins this year. Speaking during Paris Masters press, he said that he has to be realistic in his approach in comparison.
He said that the biggest prize money in history of course was a motivation. Daniil Medvedev for instance made over 22k a minute merely for playing one match albeit of course it didn't go towards rankings but it was a nice incentive for Alcaraz and the like and perhaps shows the future of tennis.
“Well, I mean, if I say I went there just for fun or to play and forget the money, I'm gonna lie. That's obviously - I mean, every person work for that, as well. You know, that's how life is about," he said during Paris Masters press.
"You know, I love playing tennis.. most of the time I don't think about the money. I just play for love or for fun. But you have to be realistic. You have to think that you want to earn money, you know, and that's it.
In Arabia it is the most highest prize money ever in the history, so that was a good motivation, at least for me.”
Sinner had more of a different tact yesterday which likely prompted this line of questioning.
"I don't play for money," Sinner stressed to Eurosport. "It's very simple. Of course, it's a nice prize, but I went there because there were possibly the six best players in the world and you can measure yourself with them. It was also a nice event... I played the matches in the right way and this can hopefully improve me as a player also for the future. Of course, the money is important, but not that much. I live a good life also without this money."
