Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have demonstrated a good relationship off the court despite their growing rivalry. According to Juan Carlos Ferrero, the coach of the Spanish player, the bond between these two young stars allows them to mutually improve.
Maintaining a smooth relationship with competitors, especially in tennis, is not easy. However, Alcaraz and Sinner have so far shown a friendly rivalry, sharing practice sessions at various tournaments throughout the year and even during the preseason with their respective teams.
The Sinner – Alcaraz rivalry is shaping up to be a significant one in the coming years, positioning them as leaders of the new generation after the Big-3. Juan Carlos Ferrero commented in Marca that the more battles they accumulate, the more emotions get involved in the relationship. Still, he hopes they can maintain the good rapport they have had so far.
"On many occasions it is not easy because it is one of your biggest rivals or your biggest rival. The more times you play and the more defeats you have that can hurt, that relationship is not easy to be fluid. The two of them have a super healthy, super good relationship. Carlos sees the things that Jannik does well and they will feed off each other's level," Ferrero claimed.
So far, both players have maintained a friendly relationship off the court and have delivered memorable battles on the court. The head-to-head record is 4-3 in favor of the Italian, who, with his successful recent months, has equaled Alcaraz's total of 12 titles.
Additionally, Sinner secured his first Grand Slam earlier this year at the Australian Open, but he still trails Alcaraz's two major titles, achieved at the 2022 US Open and the 2023 Wimbledon.
Just days before the start of Indian Wells, Alcaraz will be the second seed, and Sinner will be the third seed. In last year's edition, the Spanish player claimed the title, and in the semifinals, he defeated Sinner (7-6, 6-3), marking Alcaraz's most recent victory over the Italian.
