Saturday at the
Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS), in France brought another 5 high-quality matchups but also some controversy. Stefanos Tsitsipas added already 3rd victory at the competition, while
Feliciano Lopez and
Richard Gasquet got their 2nd victories.
Leader of the competition, Stefanos Tsitsipas faced Dustin Brown in the last match of the day session. 'The Greek God' didn't start the match ideally when he lost the first quarter 12-14. However, he showed his best tennis in the remaining 3 quarters to win the match 12-14, 18-13, 16-11, 15-10, and get his third victory to remain undefeated.
In the first match of the evening session, we saw a dominant victory but also some controversy. As the Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS) uses quarters instead of sets, time is running down from 10 minutes every quarter. During the match between Feliciano Lopez and
Matteo Berrettini, this happened to be a problem.
The Italian was losing 11-12 in the third quarter with 3 seconds left on the clock. 'The Hammer' wanted to serve, however, his opponent was not ready and the clock reached 0. That meant a lost quarter for Berrettini and possibly need to adjust rules in order to prevent such situations. The rest of the match was without problems and Lopez triumphed 14-12, 14-8, 12-11, 16-13 but the aforementioned situation could have been the one that lost the match for Berrettini.
In the last match of Saturday,
Dominic Thiem played his first match at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown. The Austrian faced Richard Gasquet who already got one victory and one loss from the competition. The Frenchman used his experience to defeated 'Domi' 16-10, 15-12, 16-12, 14-17.
