Jannik Sinner continues his superb form this week at the Vienna Open as he saw his burgeoning rivalry continue with a certain Alexander Bublik winning through 6-4, 6-4 in an entertaining tie.
A burgeoning rivalry as Sinner lost to Bublik in Halle in June but has since then defeated the 28-year-old multiple times including at the US Open in September and was close to his best again on Friday evening in Vienna as he swept past him with a superb display of striking and exquisite shot selection. He now leads Bublik 6-2 in their Head-to-Head series following this Quarter-Final win.
It is a good omen thus far for Sinner who lifted the trophy in his previous appearance in Vienna back in 2023 and is 15-4 in this event. The 24-year-old has also won his past 19 indoor matches and now meets Alex de Minaur in the semi-finals.
With Carlos Alcaraz having much mooted struggles when it comes to his indoor form, Sinner will be the favourite when it comes to the next few events as he battles through the elements in Paris and Turin indoors. Albeit the Paris venue will in fact change for 2025 with Nanterre, the La Defense Arena one of the biggest in Europe set to host it.
But for now it is continued indoor excellence in Austria as he weathered the storm and now faces off against De Minaur next up.
"It is a tough, a tough matchup. I am very happy," Sinner said. "I tried to return as many balls as possible, I felt he was serving great today. I am happy I had some chances. Early in the first set I had some but I could not use them but I am happy I was able to stay there mentally. He is a very dangerous player but I tried to stay as solid as possible, so I am very happy."

De Minaur awaits

Meeting De Minaur, the Aussie saw off a very tired Matteo Berrettini 6-1, 7-6 to claim his 53rd win of the season. Only Carlos Alcaraz has won more in 2025. It is also a fourth ATP 500 semi-final of the year with Alcaraz also with the same amount of appearances at that stage. He went onto win though only in Washington.
He squandered a match point at 5-4 against Berrettini who looked out on his feet during the opening set but eventually prevailed in the second set tie-break to improve to 2-3 in his Head-to-Head series. He is now in seventh in the Race to Turin and is likely for that spot post Paris with Auger-Aliassime now facing a big fight to usurp Musetti. The Canadian had to retire earlier today from his match in Basel and will now have to hope his lower back injury doesn't manifest into anything more serious or he could have issues.
Back to Vienna and Alexander Zverev is also through having reached the semi-finals without playing. Tallon Griekspoor withdrew before their match and in turn he booked his spot in Turin straight away without having to win another match and a week or two early. Superb stuff from the German who now faces Musetti who does need wins or Corentin Moutet, a finalist in Almaty last week.
