Rafael Nadal has announced through his social networks that he will not play the Mutua
Madrid Open either.
He suffered a serious injury in Australia and, although he expected to be recovered in eight weeks, he has already accumulated 14 weeks without recovery, so he has changed his treatment again with his sights set on trying to play
Roland Garros:
"In principle it had to be six to eight weeks of recovery period and we are already on the fourteenth. The reality is that the situation is not what we would have expected," said Nadal as
translated from Spanish.
"All medical indications have been followed, but the evolution has not been what we were told in principle. We are in a difficult situation. The weeks are passing and I had the illusion of being able to play in tournaments that are the most important in my career like Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Madrid, Rome, Roland Garros and at the moment I have missed Monte Carlo and Barcelona. Unfortunately, I won't be able to play in Madrid. The injury still hasn't healed and I can't work as hard as I need to in order to compete".
He has explained that the training was not going well and has decided to stop and start another treatment to try to recover and be able to play the remaining clay court tournaments, basically the Internazionali BNL d'Italia Rome and Roland Garros. As always, he tries to be positive in the face of adversity and promises to fight:
"I was training, but now a few days ago we have decided to change course a little bit, do another treatment and see if things improve to try to get to whatever comes. I can't give a timetable because if I knew I would tell you, but I don't know. This is the current situation. I just have to try to be with the right attitude during all this time, try to give myself the opportunity to compete in some of the tournaments that remain of the clay court season and I have no choice but to work and be with the right mentality".
