World number one
Carlos Alcaraz is set to take a few weeks
break after failing to defend his
US Open title.
The 20-year-old became the talk of the town after beating
Serbia’s legendary tennis star Novak Djokovic to lift the Wimbledon title two
months back in London after a five-set thrilling final with a score of 1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4.
However, that joy was short-lived as he failed to defend the
US Open crown after losing to the world number three Russia’s Daniil Medvedev
with a score of 7-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.
Alcaraz has already withdrawn from the Davis Cup due to
fatigue and he is now set to take a little break before returning to action.
The top-ranked ATP player will next play in the ATP 500
Beijing Open which will begin from September 28. After that, Alcaraz will play
in the Shanghai Masters which will commence on October 04.
After that, the Murcia-born will take part in the Basel Open,
Paris-Bercy Masters and will conclude his ATP season with the ATP Finals in Turin.
With that result, Alcaraz finished the year having won one
Grand Slam (Wimbledon) and played the semifinal in two out of the remaining
three. He did not participate in the Australian Open.
