Scheduled to compete at the upcoming Nitto
ATP Finals,
Alexander Zverev remains lambasted by questions regarding the domestic abuse allegations raised by his ex-girlfriend, Olya Sharypova.
These allegations were raised by Sharypova
shortly before the Paris Masters, and have since been gaining traction on social media. Although the German has vehemently denied these rumors, a resolution has yet to be reached.
Furthermore, it seems like these questions will persist as Zverev was interrogated about the allegations in his pre-ATP Finals conference in London. The World No.7 was asked if he was worried that his image had been damaged by his ex, to which Zverev responded with what seemed to be a prepared statement.
"While I very much regret that those accusations are made, I have to stick to my initial thing of them being untrue and continue to deny them," Zverev replied. "These accusations are just unfounded and untrue."
The US Open finalist went on to state that his relationship with Sharypova was presented in a false manner, adding that he was raised well by his parents. He ended his statement by apologizing for taking the focus of tennis away from the sport, and again denied all accusations of domestic abuse. The entire statement can be seen below.
Zverev is slated to compete at the ATP Finals, facing off against Daniil Medvedev in his opening match on Monday. The German lifted the trophy at the O2 Arena in 2018, defeating Novak Djokovic in the final.
