Roger Federer was, as one fan put it, "living his best life" as he went live on Instagram with the South African Springboks during their Rugby World Cup victory tour.
The South African team defeated Romania and Tonga in the group stage of the tournament before ousting France and England to set up a clash with New Zealand in the final. Once there, they won the match 12-11 to lift the prestigious trophy at the Stade de France.
The final was attended by Swiss tennis legend Federer, who had a personal interest in the outcome. This is because his mother Lynette Durand is from Kempton Park, which is a city in the East Rand region of Gauteng, South Africa.
Therefore, the 20-time Grand Slam champion was delighted with the final result, so much so that he joined the team on Instagram live as they went on their victory tour.
In the video, Federer can be seen celebrating through the phone while smiling and laughing as the team passed adoring crowds, several of whom were waving the South African flag.
"Amazing!" he exclaimed repeatedly, before adding, "Well done again, enjoy it!"
Fans reacted with joy at seeing Federer attend the final and celebrating with the team on social media.
"Federer’s mother is from South Africa, this win must mean a lot to her and Roger," wrote one fan.
"Nice to see that Roger Federer is finally showing the world that he is a proud South African too!" added another.
"GOAT [...] living his best life," commented a third.
This is South Africa's second consecutive victory at the Rugby World Cup and its fourth overall, making it the most successful country in the tournament's history.
