Social media was a blaze this morning as a tennis player in a W35 tournament went viral for just how terrible she played. Wildcard Hajar Abdelkader won just three points in her first round at the W35 tournament in Nairobi and had to be told where to stand to serve.
The contest in Kenya's capital lasted just 37 minutes and saw her hit 20 doubles faults with 20 coming from the Egyptian and had people wondering if she had paid or someone else had paid for her to be involved.
Two of the wildcard's three points came from those double faults in the fourth game of their first set. The third and final came after Schaedel overhit a backhand return in the second game of the second set. So in reality Abdelkader never won a point off her own racquet.
She had a first serve percentage of 8.3% which was 9.1% on second serves and the whole viral clip looked odd with the Egyptian unable to serve properly and trying to float it over the net with no motion. She double faulted on all but four of her serves. While Schaedel had a 92.6% first serve percentage and aced her opponent 13 times. Supposedly Abdelkader has been playing since 14 but ironically she has no record of any previous matches.
The clip has been
viewed over one million times on social media with a tournament director for a Futures event saying: "This doesn't even need to be investigated."
"It's just a straight up disrespect to the integrity of the sport and the promoter needs to be replaced immediately and kicked out of the sport. This was a MAIN DRAW wild card entry into a W35 and the "player" is from Egypt."
