Three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray and wife Kim Murray have announced that they are going to temporarily close their Cromlix Hotel in the New Year, pausing their business as work gets complete on improving the facility.
The married couple had previously bought the hotel in Kinbuck, Scotland, back in 2013 for an eye-watering £1.8 million. They have put it to good use in this time, having their wedding there in 2015 while refurbishing it into a very nice hotel to stay at. This has come to a cost to people who want to stay there, with prices for the rooms costing up to £950 a night.
The 34-acre estate is one of the business ventures that Murray has gone down since his retirement from the sport in 2024. The hotel in Perthshire was one of them, with extravagant plans set in place for the luxury location. Two new restaurants were meant to be built there earlier this year. Construction had begun in October with there also plans to put in place a wellness facility and three new suites, making it even more tantalising for guests.
However, these plans have forced the hotel to temporarily shut its doors to its guests from January 4 with priority to get everything built and up to scratch. This means that the hotel will be shut until Spring 2026.
The Courier reports that the restaurant will be able to serve up to 80 guests with a view over the estate included. The kitchen is also set for an upgrade, with it being relocated as well to fit in more space to accommodate more diners. There is also an existing Glasshouse that will host afternoon tea and other events.
It is not a small task for the developers to do, with the hotel being shut down for an elongated period of time. May 2026 is the estimated schedule for when everything is completed, and when guests can re-enter the facilities, ready to try out the new areas. Cromlix’s booking team and online shop will remain operational during the closure. The construction work is being led by the Doune-based Kings Group. Perthshire architect Fergus Purdie and interior designer Suzanne Garuda have also got a say in this group effort.
The restaurant plans, which were released in 2024, were announced with much excitement from Kim. “I’m really excited about this next phase for Cromlix," she said. "The Glasshouse, our current restaurant, has been doing really well and is fully booked most of the time, but the space lacks a bit of personality and doesn’t deliver aesthetically in the same way that the rest of the hotel does. We appointed a new executive head chef (James Mearing) earlier this year and he’s doing a great job, and it will be fantastic for him to put his stamp on this new food experience at Cromlix.”

The hotel has been a huge hit for many in Scotland, with it being recognised with several awards. This includes being named as Scottish hotel of the year at the AA Hospitality Awards back in 2024, while The Times labelled it in their top 100 places to stay in the UK.
The hotel has the potential to move up a few places once these building projects are done and dusted. Murray will be hoping for it to continue its success. He will be monitoring the progress a lot closer than he would have been last year when he was coaching Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open. He will surely have half an eye on proceedings of the opening Grand Slam of the year, and event he reached the final of five times without succeeding. It will kick off from January 18 - February 1.
