Jan-Lennard Struff has been forced to withdraw from the Cincinnati Masters,
Winston-Salem Open, and the
US Open due to a hip injury.
World No. 25 Struff made history earlier this season as the first lucky loser to reach a Masters final at the
Madrid Open in May.
The German player defeated the likes of Ben Shelton, world No. 4 Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Aslan Karatsev on his way to the final at the
ATP Masters 1000 event, before ultimately losing to world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz.
Struff extends injury recovery
Unfortunately, not long after this impressive feat, Struff suffered a hip injury at the Stuttgart Open. Nevertheless, the 33-year-old made the final of the ATP 250 event and went on to play at the Halle Open, where he played his last match for now in the doubles semifinals.
After this, he announced that he would not be playing at Wimbledon due to his injury, but hoped to be back after a 4-week recovery period.
However, it has now been revealed that Struff's rest period has been extended to over 8 weeks, meaning he will have to miss over 2 months on the court. As a result, Struff has withdrawn from the upcoming
Cincinnati Open, as well as the Winston-Salem Open and the final Grand Slam of the year at Flushing Meadows.
Fans wish Struff a speedy recovery
Fans expressed their sadness at this news on social media, adding that they hoped Struff would have a successful recovery.
"heal quickly Jan," wrote one, preceeding their comment with a crying emoji.
"Very sad. I was thinking he finally started getting deserved results. Hope it's not serious and he'll be back soon," wrote another.
"Bummer man. Guy had finally turned the corner and was realizing his full potential," another commented.
