Tim Henman will be the captain for Great Britain at the inaugural ATP Cup which is set to take place in 2020.
It is a team that features Andy Murray and Dan Evans and the former is a significant reason why he decided to get involved.
Henman said that due to the impact he has had on British tennis that he decided to get involved as he won’t be playing forever.
“I'm really excited to be a part of it… If I'm honest, it was not something that I had really given a great deal of thought at that stage,” Henman said.
“Then when we did discuss it, I think there are lots of reasons why I accepted, and I think one of the reasons is Andy [Murray]. I have had a great relationship with him for a long, long time. The reality is he's not going to play forever… seeing this new event, the
ATP Cup in Australia, I think when you look at the opportunity with the players, they've got nine of the Top 10 and 26 of the Top 30. It's going to be very, very exciting.”
“It wasn't something I was necessarily expecting. But once Andy sent me a message and said, ‘How about it?’, I definitely gave it some serious thought,” Henman said. “I think he's a significant reason why I accepted, because he's someone that I have had a great relationship for a long time. The impact that he's had on British tennis as well as world tennis has been enormous.”
