Grigor Dimitrov has hinted at a possible reunion with
Roger Federer and
Tommy Haas to revive their boyband "One-Handed Backhand Boys", which they briefly formed back in 2017.
The World No. 19 has been having a dream run at the Rolex
Shanghai Masters this week. He defeated top seed Carlos Alcaraz for the first time in his career before ousting Nicolas Jarry to reach the semi-finals, where he will face his good friend and World No. 7 Andrey Rublev.
Also present at the
ATP 1000 Masters tournament was 20-time Grand Slam champion Federer, who retired last year. The Swiss tennis legend was attending a ceremony at the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena where he received the first international "Icon Athlete" award.
Dimitrov enthusiastic about boyband reunion
In his post-match press conference, Dimitrov was asked about whether or not he would consider a potential revival of the "One-Handed Backhand Boys" with Federer and Haas, to which he replied by saying he would love to reunite.
"I don't know, I just saw Roger, so I guess we'll chat a little bit about it. I would love to, honestly, I would love to... I would really love for that one day. I believe it will. I cherish those moments so much that, maybe we'll come up with something when you guys least expect it," he said.
He added that although the three band members' lives had gone separate ways in the last six years, they still followed updates about each other.
"I think, unfortunately, our lives have gone separate ways. I mean, in a way, each in their own. I mean, we still, obviously, follow each other, and we're excited to see how life progresses and have a sneak peak at everyone's moment," he continued.
The "One-Handed Backhand Boys" went viral on social media during the 2017 Indian Wells. Dimitrov joined forces with Federer and former World No. 2 Haas to cover the 1980s classic Hard To Say I'm Sorry by the band Chicago.
