World number two Aryna Sabalenka has revealed that she has worked with a psychologist to overcome anger issues.
The 25-year-old was extremely emotional in the early phase of her career but over the period of time, it seems like she has calmed down a bit.
Sabalenka was recently quoted in a report where she revealed the role of her psychologist in helping her overcome such issues.
“I don't know. I had a psychologist for four or five years. I don't even remember how many years, but four or five,” she said. “We worked a lot. She helped me a lot. I mean, I guess I was always searching for something which can help me to control myself better.
“After some years working with a psychologist, I just decided to kind of, like, take the responsibility on myself, just to, I don't know, start to take the responsibility and don't wait for somebody help you to fix something.
“I feel like no one knows you better than you. I think that was the best decision... It's tough to say because it's been long process. I've been searching for things. I've been reading a lot of books, working with psychologists.
“At the end the only one thing that helped me is just myself, just stop expecting people to fix my problems, start fixing my problems by myself. I think that's brought much more confidence and much more control.”
Sabalenka started the 2024 season brightly as she lifted the Australian Open after beating China’s Qinwen Zheng in the final with a score of 6-3, 6-2.
It was her second consecutive Grand Slam title in Melbourne as she lifted the Australian Open in 2023 after defeating Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina in the final with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. She is now set to play in the WTA 1000 event in Dubai where she will go up against Croatia’s Donna Vekic in the round of 32 on Tuesday.
