Boris Becker's second wife opened up about her struggles following the couple's first break-up.
Sharlely 'Lilly' Becker, Dutch model and second wife of six-time Grand Slam champion Boris Becker, revealed that she 'tried every drug' in her attempt to get over the German tennis star after their first break-up in 2008.
Sharlely was speaking to makers of the ITVX docuseries, Boris Becker: The Rise and Fall, which relates the highs and lows of Becker's career, from global stardom to his recent stint in prison for hiding £2.6 million worth of assets and loans in order to avoid paying debts.
Overcoming heartbreak
The couple first met in 2005 in Miami, and began dating. Their initial relationship lasted around three years before Boris broke it off in 2008. In the documentary, Sharlely describes how she was heartbroken, saying "I've never felt so ugly, old and unwanted.'
As for the reason for the break-up, Sharlely said,
"He wanted to split up because I guess I don't know, me being insecure. I'm sure I had my faults - I was loud, I was asking questions."
Her distress only got worse when Boris announced his engagement to the daughter of his former advisor and manager, Alessandra Meyer-Wolden.
"That was a tough one", Sharlely noted, before adding "The pain wouldn't go away. I tried every mushroom, every drug, every alcohol in Ibiza. I couldn't even get drunk enough to forget about that guy."
A (sort of) happy ending
Despite this seemingly difficult break-up, the pair reconciled and quickly rekindled their romance after Boris' relationship with Meyer-Wolden broke down. In 2009, Sharlely and Boris announced their engagement and in 2010, Sharlely gave birth to their son, Amadeus Becker.
Unfortunately, the fairytale did not last, and the couple separated in 2018. However, they are yet to be officially divorced.
When asked whether or not she still loved Boris, Sharlely replied "Of course I do."
