Nick Kyrgios demonstrates his love for the major media franchise Pokemon with a full back tattoo.
Australian player Kyrgios is no stranger to making the tennis headlines. Throughout much of his career, he has been known as a 'tennis bad boy' due to his turbulent behavior on the court, including swearing, arguing with umpires, and insulting his opponents.
While some find this style of play entertaining, he has also been criticised for it in the past. However, he has now surprised his fans and critics alike with something a little more bizarre.
A difficult season
Kyrgios has had a difficult time on the
ATP Tour as of late. After making his first Grand Slam final at
Wimbledon 2022, where he was defeated by Novak Djokovic in four sets, the 28-year-old has been struggling with various injuries.
A knee injury saw him withdraw from the
Australian Open on the eve of the tournament. He was then unable to return to competition until June following surgery on a cyst growing in his meniscus.
However, a torn ligament in his wrist meant that he was forced to withdraw from Wimbledon. In a post on Instagram at the time, Kyrgios wrote that he had 'tried everything to be able to play' but unfortunately had not had enough time to recover before the SW19.
However, in his absence from tournaments, he has clearly been planning something huge in relation to another interest of his. In an Instagram story, tattoo artist @gangatattoo shared a photo of the former world No. 13 with his entire back covered in characters from the popular video game and television show Pokemon. The artist wrote
"Full Lines Just 1 hour" before tagging Kyrgios.
A confused response
The tattoo has received a mixed response from fans. One Twitter user responded by saying "All talent. No discipline", whilst others thought the decision to be too wild. However, others defended him, with one saying "Amount of people that criticize someone elses decision on a tatoo is wild. He has always said how much he loves Pokemon, so what?"
