The European Clay Court season rolls into Hamburg with a double header of ATP and WTA action between 24-30 July in the form of the
Hamburg European Open.
As ever, TennisUpToDate will run the rule over the ATP 500 and WTA 250 tournament in our
preview with the main talking points ahead of this next week.
Zverev, Rublev, Ruud and Musetti headline ATP tournament
An ATP 500 tournament on the Men's side, it carries heavy weighting when it comes to prize money and points. So much so that the men's winner gets 150% more than the Women's field combined.
This partly is due to the status of the tournament but also feeds into the current issues surrounding inequality in prize money between the tours.
For an ATP 500, it is mainly attended by those who also played in Bastad over the past week.
Andrey Rublev is currently set to play after winning in Sweden, with
Casper Ruud also set to make the trip. As is
Alexander Zverev, Lorenzo Musetti among others.
Musetti is currently the defending champion defeating Carlos Alcaraz last year who now has ascended to even bigger heights and will now focus on the US Open.
But for many players especially Ruud and Rublev, it is a part of the season they flourish in and will look to be the leading lights this week.
Vekic, Sherif, Pera and Paolini headline field in WTA Draw
In terms of the WTA Draw, it has slightly suffered from Palermo being in the prior week meaning that Daria Kasatkina and Anastasia Potapova for instance haven't travelled.
That leaves
Donna Vekic headlining the field but also many standouts from Palermo.
Including Jasmine Paolini and Mayar Sherif who will come in as two of the top seeds.
Bernarda Pera also is defending champion defeating Anett Kontaveit who has now retired from the sport, a year on from the final.
