Stefanos Tsitsipas has opened up about what was discussed during
the serious conversation between him and his girlfriend
Paula Badosa at the
Australian Open. The Spanish tennis star had a fabulous time during the recently concluded first Grand Slam of the year, where she played in the semifinal, which was the first of her career in a major event.
In that contest, she came second-best against the world
number one Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-2. On the
other hand, Tsitsipas had a tournament to forget in Melbourne, where he was knocked
after losing to America’s Alex Michelsen with a score of 7-5, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4.
The 2023 Australian Open runner-up has been recently quoted
in a report where he opened up about what conversation he had with his
girlfriend Badosa during the Australian Open. Tsitsipas also stated that seeing
his girlfriend do so well in a mega-event motivates him to produce the goods for the upcoming events.
“Her success gives me a lot of motivation,” he said. “I felt
privileged that I could give her some small advice to help her en route to the
semi-finals. She gave me the freedom to give some feedback and tips. We had
serious conversations during her run. I was being strict with her as I didn’t
want to be too soft. Because in this sort of circumstance, she’s learned to
play her own way. But I feel there’s so much potential in her that she can
extract from her game and use that to spread even more of her tennis identity
better inside the court. I feel like there were certain times in the past where
she was underplaying. She just didn’t realise it because she was stuck in her
comfort zone. But what I’m trying to help her do is get her out of her comfort
zone and make her more dangerous on the court. It was inspiring to me to see
her execute because it teaches me how to do things when I am in that position.”
