According to breaking reports from The Telegraph, showdown merger talks have been convened to bring together the
ATP and
WTA Tours in a possible merger.
Long a hot topic, it has been raised even more so with the prospect of Saudi Arabia investing and looking to take over the sport.
It has already done so when it comes to the Next Gen Finals in the ATP, with rumors already floating around surrounding the future of the Hall of Fame Open Newport as well as the
WTA Finals.
Since then though with the latter, Prague/Ostrava have emerged as the frontrunner seemingly offering similar prize money and of course with Karolina Muchova and Marketa Vondrousova likely qualifying makes more sense.
But it seems there is more than meets the eye, with a two-day summit planned featuring Steve Simon (WTA) and Andrea Gaudenzi (ATP) to discuss a historic merger. Simon Briggs penning the article also notes that another concern surrounds the PTPA which is founded by Novak Djokovic and has been 'gradually expanding its influence since it's establishment four years ago'.
While nothing is concrete yet, the Saudi Arabia rumours could finally see the tours come together in unity after long being wide apart.
Sharing the same tournaments, but not the same prize money, and also highlights even on the Tennis TV platform and differing popularity.
