The WTA Tour is set to make a quick layover in Texas with the
ATX Open Austin set to commence. A huge talent pool of Americans are set to join in on the action with other competitors set to battle it out for the prizes on stake.
A lot of the attention will be fixated on the world number five
Jessica Pegula who is in scintillating form. Two events competed in and she has gone deep in both of them, being the Australian open semi-final and Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships final. She will be looking to make another deep run as she returns to the United States with firm ambitions to regain this title she won last year, defeating McCartney Kessler 7-5, 6-2.
Kessler will be dearly hoping for another performance similar to the one last year with her looking to get back to her best. She reached the quarterfinal in the Abu Dhabi Open and since that defeat to Clara Tauson has not stepped out onto court. She will be fresh and rejuvenated ready for another title run.
Now bumped down to the third seed thanks to a special young talent starting to blossom on the WTA Tour.
Iva Jovic turned heads in the Australian Open as she reached the quarterfinal stage. She also went deep in the two prior events in Auckland and Hobart as she showed her class. She will be one of the favourites to clinch a second WTA title but may need to get over her prior woes against Pegula, who in which she lost to in Dubai.
The fourth seed, Xinyu Wang, has made new ground after a terrific start to 2026. A final defeat in the ASB Classic marked a second final. Still without a WTA title, she will be hoping to repeat the goods of fellow Chinese women Yuan Yue who won the title in 2024 in an all-Chinese final against Wang Xiyu.
Further down the list there are some big stories.
Venus Williams continues to compete on the big stage. She failed to pick up a win in the Australian swing and now back in the USA, she will be hoping to make some more storylines.
Peyton Stearns, Caty McNally and Ashlyn Krueger will also play on home soil in Austin. The likes of Eva Lys, Varvara Gracheva, Solana Sierra and Francesca Jones are among the names who will pose a challenge to the top players.
