Predictions ATX Open Austin
Samuel Gill, Head Editor for TennisUpToDate.com sees Iva Jovic as the champion in Austin.
Iva Jovic for me is the winner. One of the most in-form players on the WTA Tour outside of the big names and outside of her Australian Open run. She has reached multiple semi-finals and finals already this season.
Jessica Pegula will likely be up there if she even plays in the tournament and that's a big if. I also see Xinyu Wang being up there and Bianca Andreescu also having a run on her return to the main tour. She's been gaining wins on the smaller tours so I see her bringing that form forward.
*** Iva Jovic
** Jessica Pegula
* Xinyu Wang, Bianca Andreescu
Andreescu to go on a run on her return?
Lucas Michael, Editor for TennisUpToDate.com sees Jessica Pegula as the champion.
There is a strong contingent of USA tennis players making the trip to Austin to compete in the ATX Open hoping to put on a show on home soil.
As boring as it sounds, I do not see any other scenario than Jessica Pegula running away with the title. She has started the year on the front foot, reaching a brace of semi-finals including in the Australian Open. Consistency is one of her strong traits while the ability to win in any scenario.
If anyone is going to lure the spoils away from the world number six, Iva Jovic is not a bad shout. The 18-year-old has been electric this year with some strong showings Down Under. Whether she can build on her already well-rounded game and continue to improve in the short term is another discussion, but she will most certainly be one to watch in Texas.
McCartney Kessler made it all the way to the final last year, losing in straight sets to Pegula. She will be hoping to go one better as Xinyu Wang looks for inspiration in the 2024 final where two of her fellow Chinese tennis players clashed for the title.
The likes of Eva Lys and Peyton Stearns could cause some trouble but not enough to stop Pegula from defending her title.
