After a solid experience in Paris for Roland Garros, Bianca Andreescu made her way to Den Bosch where she made a winning start at the Libema Open 6-4 6-4 over Sonmez.
Andreescu played well on grass last year making a final in Bad Homburg where she lost to Caroline Garica so her making a winning start on the surface is not a huge surprise. She played rather well this year with the injury proving the only negative thing about her season. If her momentum hadn't been cut short in Miami, who knows how well she would be playing at the moment?
This match wasn't anything special but she did enough to win which is ultimately the goal. The first set saw the players battle in pretty tricky rallies as Andreescu didn't dominate as much as people might have expected. Sonmez didn't do well on her second serve and didn't save any of the two break points she faced but she also gave Andreescu a lot of problems on the Canadian's serve.
The former grand slam champion faced 7 break points in total though she saved 6 of those which was enough to hold onto a 6-4 finish in the opening set. The second set was a bit simpler but once again we saw the players trade blows in most rallies. Both faced the same amount of break points in the second set though the Canadian was able to save two of those while Sonmez managed only to save one.
The Canadian also served much better than her opponent so that made things a lot easier for her as she didn't have to complicate too much. Most of the rallies on the serve of the Turkish players went on for a while and she didn't really have a good percentage on either serve. Good enough for Andreescu to win 6-4 6-4.
