Former Australia player
Jelena Dokic’s documentary is set to
be released in November. The 41-year-old finished her career in 2014, 16 years
after turning pro. She finished her career without winning a single Grand Slam
in her career.
A documentary regarding Dokic’s life is set to be premiered
in November in Australia. The trailer was released on the social media platform
Facebook as well which shows glimpses of how the Osijek-born struggled in her
life as she ended up representing as many as three different countries.
Dokic’s best performance in a Grand Slam came in 2000 when
she played in the semifinal at Wimbledon but lost to former world number one
America’s Lindsay Devenport in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-2. She also
played in the quarterfinal at Wimbledon in 1999 where she lost to America’s Alexandra
Stevenson with a score of 6-3, 1-6, 6-3.
Dokic then lost in the quarterfinal of the French Open in 2002
to former world number one America’s Jennifer Capriati with a score of 6-4,
4-6, 6-1. Her last appearance in the quarterfinal of a major event came in 2009
when she lost to former world number one Russia’s Dinara Safina in the
last-eight clash of the Australian Open with a score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
Dokic did manage to play in the final of a Grand Slam in the
doubles category in 2001 at the Roland Garros. However, she and her partner Conchita
Martínez of Spain lost to the pair of the Argentina’s Paola Suárez and Virginia
Ruano Pascual in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-1. Other than that, Dokic
also won a number of personal awards as well. She was named the International
Tennis Federation (ITF) World Junior Champions in 1998. Later in 2001, Dokic
was named the Sportswoman of The Year by the Olympic Committee of Yugoslavia.
