Emma Raducanu will return to the WTA Tour in a few weeks time playing at the
ASB Classic in Auckland and details have finally been confirmed about some sort of coaching team ahead of her Australia/New Zealand venture.
Raducanu according to the Daily Mail has turned to former childhood coach, Nick Cavaday ahead of her return to Australia. Albeit with a caveat that there is no confirmation yet about whether he will join her in Australia/New Zealand or not meaning it is more of a trial and could result in the Brit picking another coach.
Similar move to US Open winning coach?
But he is a familiar face to Raducanu having worked at the LTA in her home town of Bromley between 2011-2014 where she used to train. It is a similar move to that of Andrew Richardson who was dumped after she won the US Open in favour of bigger named coaches.
But this move has since been heavily criticised with Raducanu having a huge turnover of coaches and a coaching merry go round while also being injured and out of sorts on the tennis court. Somdev Devvarman, a former ATP World No.62 has also been hired to take Raducanu through her paces as a hitting partner to add to the team. With only 12 days until she returns to the court, this is the first sign that she is starting to assemble a team for her trip after several months of using LTA staff members and hitting partners on an ad-hoc basis. But it would also be unusual for another coach to step in at late notice now meaning Cavaday likely will join her in Australia.
