Emma Raducanu's issues continue as the former US Open champion will not compete at the
MiamI Open where she reached the Quarter-Finals so a ranking drop will be imminent too as not only does it cause short term but potentially long term problems for the Brit.
The 24th seed was expected to potentially face
Sonay Kartal on Thursday or Friday. Kartal grew up with and has been a friend of Raducanu's since they were kids and of course being the top British players, it marked a bit of a tie to watch at the
Miami Open.Kartal still had to get past the recent ATX Open Austin winner Peyton Stearns but of course for British media in particular, they were very much up for a bit of Raducanu v Kartal but now that won't happen.
It is understood as per
Express Sport that Raducanu has still not recovered from the viral symptoms she picked up during the Middle Eastern swing. She also had issues before that when she reached the final in Cluj. It's the second time in three seasons that Raducanu has pulled out of the competition. She did so in 2024 after suffering a lower back injury.
Still no coach either
She reached the third round at Indian Wells showing steady form after her run since that Cluj final wasn't the best. She lost 6-1, 6-1 to Amanda Anisimova.
“When I'm playing someone who's at the top like that, I think they have an extra 10 miles an hour on their serve than me," she opened up about facing Anisimova in California.
"If I'm not feeling it, that gap feels more evident in terms of weight of shot, in terms of power. You just feel a little bit behind and your punches aren't landing as much as theirs are.
Emma Raducanu was well beaten by Amanda Anisimova in Indian Wells.
“I need to be aggressive when playing those players, but I think there's still a long way to go to be doing that. I need to use my strengths and probably mix it up a bit more.”
She also is without a full time coach after splitting with Francisco Roig in January and has not been actively splitting with one. She worked with Mark Petchey again in Indian Wells. But their partnership is now up in the air following her Miami withdrawal heading towards the clay court season.
