Former world number one Martina Navratilova and her partner Julia
Lemigova have adopted two young boys. The 67-year-old is often regarded as one
of the greatest players in the history of women’s tennis in the Open era.
As per the latest media reports, Navratilova and her partner
Lemigova have adopted two young boys. It was earlier reported that the couple,
who got married back in 2014, decided to hold the plan of adoption because Navratilova
was dealing with cancer treatment. Her partner Julia also confirmed the development while talking to Page Six. “Our adoption plans were on hold, but
we’re still not closing the door on those plans,” she said back then. In late
2023, it was announced that the legendary tennis star was finally cancer free.
Navratilova was also quoted in a report where she expressed excitement
about the development. “We are over the moon, recognising the challenges and
the rewards for everybody,” she said. The Prague-born tennis player ended her professional
career in 2006, 32 years after turning pro. She lifted 18 Grand Slam titles in the
singles category. Her most successful competition was Wimbledon, where she won the title nine times. Her last Grand Slam in the singles category was also
Wimbledon in 1990, where she defeated Zina Garrison in the final in straight sets
with a score of 6-4, 6-1.
Other than that, Navratilova also won 31 doubles Grand Slam
titles and 10 mixed doubles major titles. She ended up winning 354 titles in her
illustrious career, which remains the most by any player in the Open era, both in
men’s and women’s tennis. The player with the second-most titles in tennis in the Open era is Chris Evert, who has won 189 titles combined (singles and doubles), which is 165 titles less than what Navratilova has won in her illustrious career.
