Iga Swiatek, the World Number One is successfully through to the fourth round at
Indian Wells albeit after weathering early adversity to do so in the desert. But it was more the character that she showed that can be lauded as she moved through 6-4, 6-0 against
Linda Noskova.
Swiatek lost out to Noskova at the Australian Open in a crushing defeat for the World No.1 which saw the section of the draw blown wide open in Melbourne in particular for Qinwen Zheng and Anna Kalinskaya to make deep runs. But she will look to make strides this week to regain her Indian Wells title after winning it in 2022.
After being down 2-4 15-40 in this one, Swiatek was spectacular as she won ten consecutive games to claim it as Noskova was left thinking what could've been after a stellar start to the tie.
Going 3-1 down and an early break early on, it was the usual early Swiatek wobble as Noskova claimed momentum. But after the Czech spurned multiple break points, Swiatek left no doubt from there with a swift break to make it 4-4 and she won the set from there.
Then it was time for a bagel. Noskova didn't have a single break point in the final set as Swiatek breezed it in just 28 minutes. She took breaks at 2-0, 4-0 and 6-0 and sealed it on the first match point. The only game that was close was at 3-0 when Swiatek and Noskova went to deuce and advantage but Noskova never got a break chance and Swiatek made sure she got the revenge she was hoping for. Next up is either Madison Keys or Yulia Putintseva.
