Karolina Muchova was left in a slightly awkward spot as she answered questions after seeing off Anastasia Potapova at the US Open about playing like a man.
Albeit there was substance to the questioning at the Grand Slam with Chris Evert making a commentary comment which went viral. She said that she plays like a guy and wants to play like the men.
To which Ons Jabeur took umbrage to this and said she doesn't get the stereotyping based off gender and that women can have great games without the comparisons. Not having seen Jabeur's comment, she was left a bit befuddled by it and not knowing how to answer it.
“I don’t think I play like a man. I don’t know what to say about that," said Muchova when asked by a journalist about the controversy.
“I don’t really know what she said. But obviously I took some inspiration from, let’s name Roger Federer or Novak Djokovic.
“I like to follow what they do. Then it kind of inspires me. I don’t think I play that way.”
Next up is Jasmine Paolini and it is an inspiring clash for Muchova for a player who has constantly improved and is now on the higher echelons of the rankings all while she was injured.
“Well, I think it's been a few years since we played. We played last match I don't even know when. So for sure I think every week, every month, every year you are a different player. Looking at her result, you can see that she really improved a lot.
"I didn't play the slams. Roland Garros, I was following actually, and I'm a fan of hers. She did an incredible job and playing finals on clay and then grass at Wimbledon. It's just pretty inspiring. Yeah, she's a very nice girl. So, yeah, I was supporting.”

As much as I respect Federer, can we please stop referring to women as the "female version of an accomplished man"? Women are individuals and Muchova is an athlete in her own right -- should her worth as an athlete increase ONLY if she'd compared to a man?
