Jelena Ostapenko was in her usual superb form in her post match interview at the
Adelaide International where on being asked about dropping the first set against Sorana Cirstea, she said she was 'sleeping'.
Ostapenko saw off Sorana Cirstea in the first round of the Adelaide International and managed to win through 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 against the Romanian. Reaching the Quarter-Finals of the Australian Open and US Open in 2023 as well as sealing a title in Birmingham, Ostapenko is back towards the top 10 in the WTA Ranking and will play again this week in Adelaide albeit she will hope its not in the morning.
She put the drowsiness down to not being a morning person smiling in the clip above. "I was sleeping in the first set because I’m not an early morning person," she said with a smile.
Next up will be Caroline Garcia in the second round of the Adelaide International which she will play on Wednesday. She is currently slated to play first up meaning it will likely be another early start for the former French Open champion so her joking around post match didn't seem to move the needle in getting her a later court placing. But after going berserk at the umpire last week in Brisbane, it seems the Latvian is still providing the drama and humour going into the 2024 season.
