Poland’s Iga Swiatek is having a fabulous season on the court. The 22-year-old started slowly, as she was knocked out of the Australian Open after losing in the third round to Linda Noskova with a score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. However, since then, the reigning world number one has hardly put a foot wrong.
In her most recent outing, Swiatek defeated the world number two Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka in the final of the Rome Open in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-3 to lift the title. It was her second consecutive WTA 1000 event as she also won the Rome Open by beating Sabalenka in the final with a score of 7-5, 4-6, 7-6. Besides that, Swiatek lifted the Qatar Open after beating Elena Rybakina in the final and also won the WTA 1000 event at Indian Wells after getting the better of Greece’s Maria Sakkari in the final.
Those performances have not gone unnoticed, as Swiatek has achieved yet another milestone. She has now become the women player with more ranking points since 2015. Currently, Swiatek has 11,695 ranking points. The last time a women player had this many ranking points was nine years back when Serena Williams had 12,721 points. While Swiatek might not be able to meet that tally in the near future, she definitely has a chance to improve ranking points when she takes the court in the upcoming French Open, where she will be defending her back-to-back titles.
