Indian Wells organisers have provided additional security for Emma Raducanu following the harassment scandal she experienced at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.

The Brit was forced to stop her match against Karolina Muchova after noticing a man in the crowd displaying obsessive behaviour. The man in question had reportedly followed Raducanu throughout the Middle East Swing in Abu Dhabi, Doha, and Dubai.

A day before the 2021 US Open champion faced Muchova, she went out to eat alone—an unusual move—only to encounter the same man at the restaurant. Their reunion during the match left Raducanu in tears, hiding behind the umpire's chair as security escorted the man out of the stadium. He has since been banned from attending future WTA events.

WTA steps in as Indian Wells tightens security for Raducanu

While the WTA has expressed concern over the case, Raducanu chose not to press charges. However, the man reportedly signed an agreement to stay away from the former world No. 10. Despite this, concerns over Raducanu's safety have prompted Indian Wells to take extra measures to protect the 22-year-old.

According to a recent report by The Times, Raducanu has been offered up to five personal security guards who could accompany her even outside the Tennis Paradise grounds. The WTA’s vice president of security, former Secret Service agent Bob Campbell, is overseeing the arrangements.

It remains unclear whether Raducanu will accept Indian Wells’ offer of extra security or opt to hire her own private team. The Brit continues her push to climb back up the rankings and compete for major titles.

Last year, Raducanu reached the third round in Indian Wells, while in 2023, she made it to the fourth round—strong results in a tournament where she has shown glimpses of her best tennis. Her only defeats in the past two years came at the hands of Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka.
