The Pole was too strong for teenager Leonie Kung as she eased to her second WTA title after two sets.
Magda Linette won the
Thailand Open after defeating Kung 6-3, 6-2 after two sets. Linette put in an incredible performance, identified Kung's second serve as a weakness and duly exploited it. She would go on to win 74% of points in that situation to seal a break in the first set. And another two in the second set sealed what was a comfortable win in one hour and 17 minutes.
Kung initially put up a good fight and was showing the kind of form that made her defeat three Top 100 players in the tournament. But a double fault and an unforced error from deuce turned the tide in Linette's favour.
The current world no 42 comfortably won the first set and continued to dominate in the second set. It was evident that Kung was suffering from a brief mental relapse. The Swiss gave the Linette a scare towards the end of the second set as she seems to be rejuvenated. But a fine drop and an unreturned serve sealed Linette's second WTA tour title.
In a courtside interview after the match, Linette said the match was tough and she had to be aggressive.
"It was so tough today, I had to keep it together to the very end. I knew I need to be the one leading the game. I knew I have to be really aggressive and I had that confidence from the matches before and I'm really glad that I managed to do what we planned with my coach," Linette said.
The teenager said she will continue working on her tennis as she hopes to go further up in the rankings.
"I'm just trying to build up my ranking even more and play day by day and just have fun and enjoy on court," Kung said
