Roland Garros champion
Iga Swiatek may have won her maiden Grand Slam in Paris a few weeks ago, but the Polish superstar is already hungry for more success.
In an interview with the Polish media, the 19-year old revealed her goals for the future.
“I’ve always wanted to win all four Grand Slam tournaments and have an Olympic medal'" Swiatek disclosed. "Now that I’ve won Roland Garros, it doesn’t seem so unrealistic.”
Having won a doubles Gold medal at the Youth Olympics in 2018, Swiatek just needs to win three more Grand Slams in order to fully attain her goals. Furthermore, her fairytale run in Paris was unexpected yet incredibly efficient. The then-World No.54 dropped just 28 games en route to the title, setting a record for the fewest games dropped since Steffi Graf's title run in 1988.
However, Swiatek realizes the pressure that comes with being a Grand Slam champion, explaining "Now I have to work on achieving good results constantly. I know it sounds weird that someone won Grand Slam, and she lost in the first round of Rome”.
Regardless of the challenges, Swiatek remains full of confidence in herself and her abilities on the court, adding “Somewhere in myself, I always believed I could do great things”.
