Day 11 is incoming and the
schedule is set for 2023
Wimbledon semi-finals day in the Women's Draw with our first final set to be confirmed.
Barring one player, a new Grand Slam winner will potentially be confirmed with one player in particular being a favourite to add to her sole Grand Slam title.
Sabalenka-Jabeur and Svitolina-Vondrousova to take Centre Stage
Two ties that are polar opposite in terms of players that are expected to be there and two players who have had welcome runs at SW19.
The two that were expected were
Aryna Sabalenka, part of that so called WTA Big Three with Iga Swiatek and Elena Rybakina and could ascend to the top of the WTA ladder by reaching the final.
She will now be favourite to not only do that but to lift the title. Not playing on Centre Court nearly at all during this fortnight, she will get the chance second up in a cracking contest.
The other piece of this puzzle is
Ons Jabeur. Last year's finalist will likely see this as her final as the pressure will ramp onto her even more if she does win through.
After last year's disappointment of losing to Elena Rybakina in the final, she gained revenge and erased all doubt and could make further history for Tunisia and the Middle East if she wasn't a trailblazer enough by becoming a Grand Slam champion.
A player who would be a popular winner of the title come Saturday, she has two more matches to do so.
In terms of Head to Head, Sabalenka importantly has a win at Wimbledon against Jabeur back in 2021 on her resume and has only lost once ever to her.
Back in 2020 at the French Open with the subsequent three wins going the way of the Belarusian but will this count for anything on the day?
While in the other half,
Elina Svitolina will aim to make her maiden Grand Slam final.
A player who has been top three in the world, won the WTA Finals but never been past the semi-finals of a Grand Slam.
She has captivated the hearts and minds of the British over the past week with the back drop not only of the Ukraine but her post pregnancy comeback after only coming back three months ago.
The added spice which the press will hope sees Svitolina through is a potential clash with Aryna Sabalenka in the final.
She stood at the net waiting for Svitolina at Roland Garros and would be the first Grand Slam likely with no handshake between the finalists and will likely see those not usually covering the sport descending on SW19 to do so.
But she has to get past a player who has done what she hasn't and reach a Grand Slam final. That being
Marketa Vondrousova.
The Czech ace reached the Roland Garros final back in 2019 and at the age of 24 has dealt with having multiple wrist surgeries last year and time away from the court as she couldn't deliver on that clay court breakout.
She took advantage of a Jessica Pegula meltdown last round and before that stood on the brink against Marie Bouzkova. But she now has a chance to make it two Grand Slam finals and like she did in Paris, it has been fairly under the radar.
It is a match that has been played numerous times. Svitolina won in 2018 in Qatar, Stuttgart that same year and Indian Wells in 2019. But Vondrousova thrashed her in Rome in their last meeting.
Two different players since then and it is hard to predict who finds their way through.
