Former world number one Andy Roddick has backed Czech Republic’s Karolina Muchova to win a Grand Slam in 2025. The 28-year-old has always been regarded as one of the most talented players on the tour in the women’s singles category but has failed to achieve the heights, largely because of fitness concerns.

Former men’s number one Roddick has recently spoken in his own podcast where he praised Muchova. The 42-year-old backed the world number 22 to win a Grand Slam in 2025. Roddick also called Muchova one of the most talented players on the tour and believes that the only thing which is separating her from being counted as one of the best players in the world is her health.

“[Karolina] Muchova, currently ranked 22, she is an amazing player,” he said. “The only thing separating her from the top five is health and she can bother everyone. She would be on my top five list of people who could win a slam next year, she could win a major.”

Muchova’s struggles with fitness continued in 2024 as well where she only managed to play 28 matches and won 21 of them. She only participated in two out of four Grand Slams and still managed to play in the semifinal of one of them. Despite taking part in just eight events in the calendar year, Muchova played in the quarterfinal or beyond in five of them. Her best performance in 2024 came in the China Open where she finished as the runner-up after losing to America’s Coco Gauff in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-1, 6-3. Other than that, Muchova also played in the semifinal of the US Open where she came second best while playing against the world number one Belarus Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 7-6.
