Italy’s tennis star
Martina Trevisan has registered a unique
record during her first-round victory in the
US Open 2023.
The fourth and final Grand Slam is already underway where
players are battling it out to secure the ultimate prize.
Trevisan secured her first-round win in a remarkable
turnaround against Yulia Putintseva on Tuesday with a score of 0-6, 7-6, 7-6.
While doing so, she became the first player in the history
of women’s tennis in the Open era to win a Grand Slam match after losing the
first set without winning a game whereas the next two sets were decided on a
tiebreaker.
The result was indeed a great comeback from a player who
looked completely down and out after the first set.
The victory also helped Trevisan equal her best record in
the US Open of playing in the second round. She achieved the same in 2021 as
well.
The Florence-born will be hoping to improve her overall
record while playing at the Flashing Medows and go one step further this time
around.
She is due to face reigning Wimbledon champion Czech
Republic’s Marketa Vondrousova in the round of 64 clash on Thursday.
