Following her historic loss to Anna Blinkova at the 2024 Australian Open, Kazakh tennis star Elena Rybakina will see a significant drop in position on the WTA Ranking table.
The former Wimbledon champion was shocked by a determined Blinkova, who recorded a 4-6 6-4 7-6(20) over the third seed during their second round encounter in Melbourne. Blinkova, who is unseeded at the event, displayed incredible grit as she overcame her Kazakh opponent to record the biggest win of her career.

Rybakina to suffer big drop in rankings after Melbourne

The World No.3 is set to see a significant drop in rankings at the conclusion of the event Down Under. Rybakina, who finished runner-up to Aryna Sabalenka at last year's edition, will lose 1230 points as a result of her early elimination. This will see her drop down two spots, from World No.3 to No.5 on the WTA Rankings table.
Rybakina won the title in Brisbane a few weeks before the start of the Australian Open. Her form and style of play made her a favorite to lift the title in Melbourne, but the 24-year old's quest for a second Grand Slam title was cut short at the hands of Blinkova, who next faces 26th-seeded Italian Jasmine Paolini for a spot in the round of 16.

Okay...
1. In the Blinkova vs Rybakina match we got to see two longtime colleagues whom consistently faced one another throughout their Junior years. Perhaps the pair could be placed in the "nemesis" category. Each knew the other's routines and habits. Thus, an amazing battle ensued.

2. If fluctuating Top 20 rankings is a new concept to you, are you even paying attention? This is going to be an ongoing, growing routine; especially at the WTA level. How can one not predict such an up-and-down cycle in the rankings given the convergence of existing athletic powers (Swiatek, Rybakina, Sabalenka, etc.) and the current young and talented players? One player 'owning' the season, like Iga did in recent history, may be a thing of the past.

May be, as you said but Swiatek might have turned a mental corner though in that cliffhanger against Collins. Her mental state didn't follow the scoreline as it should have. But only just and because the American fell flat a bit. Like Parry against Mirra. But to come back on topic, i still think it's in Swiatek's and Sabalenka hands with only one real threat.. Coco Gauff. And a Rybakina in the zone. Anisimova? Noskova? Timofeeva? Others? It's all possible but not this season. So, we might need to wait until Andreeva hits balls 10 miles an hour faster..

Next thing you know Iga's out.
