Serena Williams is set to make an astonishing return to tennis after retiring from the sport almost four years ago. Grass is her destination with London calling for her eye-catching comeback. She will compete at Queen's Club Championships in the doubles alongside
Victoria Mboko who has since stepped onto the practice court with her much more experienced partner.
The American has teased her comeback ever since the end of 2025 when her name was spotted on the ITIA’s Registered Testing Pool. While she did fight back any potential rumours surrounding her possible comeback to the sport she once dominated, fans were still on the edge of their seat waiting for more news.
This came very recently after six months passed, allowing her to get back competing. A video was posted on social media confirming the news that the 44-year-old
would be back on the WTA Tour.
She would be joining forces with her sister, Venus, who was also enjoying a stint back on court. She returned last year in the DC Open, competing in the North American hardcourt swing before featuring Down Under, on the Sunshine swing and even on clay in the Madrid Open.
For now, all the attention is on the other sister who is the main talking point ahead of the
WTA Queen's event commencing from June 8-14, kicking off the grass swing after a busy patch on clay.
Mboko exhilarated over Williams return
Mboko is the lucky person to be competing alongside the 23-time Grand Slam champion in the doubles event. Already they have had a hit on court with the 19-year-old relishing every moment.
“The Queen is back! An honour to share the court with one of the greatest athletes of all time this week. Even more excited to play doubles together! Tennis is pretty special,” she wrote on
Instagram.
For Williams, grass was the perfect surface to return to. She won seven of her 23 singles Grand Slam titles at Wimbledon, making up for all but one of her grass titles with the other one coming at SW19 but in the form of an Olympic gold medal.
Serena Williams is set to make a highly anticipated return to the court at Queen's Club Championships alongisde Victoria Mboko
“Queen’s Club feels like the perfect place to begin this next chapter,” she said. “Grass has given me some of the most meaningful moments of my career, and I’m excited to be back competing on one of the sport’s most iconic stages.”
Williams was lethal as a double player, winning 14 Grand Slam titles from 14 finals alongside her sister with another two mixed doubles major titles with Max Mirnyi to add to the overall collection.
Mboko has also had experience competing in doubles. This year alone she competed with fellow young talent Ival Jovic at the Australian Open before partnering two-time Grand Slam champion Coco Gauff in Qatar. She teamed up with Mirra Andreeva over the Sunshine swing ahead of reuniting with Jovic for the Madrid Open. It will be intriguing to see how the duo cope with the expectant pressure and high expectations placed on their shoulders as the grass swing commences with a bang.
