Carlos Alcaraz's former coach
Juan Carlos Ferrero has come under fire for his latest interview which he has refuted and said that his words were poorly translated and misconstrued.
Alcaraz and Ferrero worked together for over seven years winning six Grand Slams, eight Masters 1000 titles and sealing the World No.1 spot. They parted ways in December 2025 but it has led since then to a malaise of interviews with him with multiple questions mainly surrounding whether he would coach Jannik Sinner.
He spoke to Corriere Della Sera and said that more so the issue was in fact surrounding the situation where he supposedly said that he wouldn't have allowed him to buy a yacht if it was him that was taken out of hand. In the same interview, he also said that he would coach Jannik Sinner if he was given the opportunity.
“It is a situation I know well: for years I trained Carlos with the aim of beating Jannik,” he said in an interview with Corriero della Sera. “In other words, the improvements were adapted specifically to Sinner.”
“A few months ago I would have said no: the break with Carlos was recent and I was not ready. But now that I feel stronger, I say: why not? Sinner loves hard work and is willing to do whatever it takes to stay world number one. I like his attitude. It would be wonderful to coach him.”
Calls out media
But he has called out the media and said that while he tries to do as many interviews as he can, everything being misconstrued means he is less likely to going forward and that all it lends itself to is interviews being misconstrued and spread quickly under this guise which he doesn't like.
“I would like to reflect on the responsibility that the media have when reporting. When a story is published, especially if it affects a person's public image or even their personal relationships, it is essential to check and verify the information before sharing it. Misinformation or lack of rigor is not acceptable. If an interview is quoted or statements are transcribed, the minimum requirement is to make sure they have been reproduced correctly," said Ferrero on
Instagram.

“Honestly, it is getting harder for me to give interviews. I receive constant requests and I always try to deal with the media with respect and good will. That is why it is especially frustrating when situations like this occur, in which statements that are wrongly transcribed generate misleading headlines that then spread quickly.”
He also attempted to set the record straight by also providing said transcript of the interview and shared his original quote about the yacht instead of what he thinks was misconstrued. “I will, I will say that maybe. I was the guy who say no to many things, you know, but as his family. I think also family try to make him stay on the floor all the time.”
