There was controversy prior to Iga Swiatek's win over Qinwen Zheng at the 2024 United Cup with the World No.1 taking her practice a little bit too seriously.
During the pre-match warm-up, Zheng was getting ready to serve and saw a serve career into her arm at full speed from the other end of the court from the Pole. This drew the ire as expected from the Chinese ace who gave Swiatek daggers across the court as she said sorry and was apologetic.

En route to taking the tie, it was another dominant win for Swiatek who took it 6-2, 6-3 and Poland are seen as the favourites now to seal the title after reaching the latter stages. But some weren't a fan of Swiatek's antics.
"You can't buy class, respect and aura. Disgusting stuff from Iga here, if this was [Aryna] Sabalenka or Coco [Gauff] people would be going mad," one social media user wrote.
Another added: "I just know Qinwen wanted to slap her in that moment and have her disqualified." But this rhetoric looked to be quashed by another fan who believed she shouldn't have been targeted for something she apologised for: "Are people in the quotes for real? XD She apologized like two times. Was she supposed to get on her knees and beg for forgiveness?"
