Following an exceptional week of tennis in Doha and Acapulco, the WTA rankings has seen some movement as players begin to find their form this season.
Belarusian
Aryna Sabalenka climbed two spots to reach No.11, as
her victory at the Qatar Total Open proved she is the player to beat right now. Having reached a career high of World No.9 in 2019, Sabalenka will look to improve on that in the coming weeks.
Belinda Bencic leap-frogs Serena Williams following her
quarterfinal appearance in Doha, rising to the No.8 spot. Williams has not played since representing the United States at the
Fed Cup qualifiers, but should feature during Indian Wells or Miami.
Garbine Muguruza continues her ascent up the rankings ladder, the former World No.1 rises one spot to No.15 as her
resurgent season has taken everyone by surprise.
Svetlana Kuznetsova might be approaching the twilight of her career but the 34-year old Russian has shown little sign of slowing down. She rises 14 spots to No.32 following her
semifinal appearance in Doha.
After finally breaking a
four-year title drought, Acapulco champion
Heather Watson jumped 20 places to reach No.49 in the
WTA rankings. Previously reaching a career-high of No.38 in January 2015, the Brit
seemed ecstatic following her title victory and should build off that momentum going forward.
Tunisian Ons Jabeur is having a career year, having reached the
Australian Open quarterfinals. The 25-year old also achieved the
same success in Doha before falling to Petra Kvitová. Jabeur rises 5 spots to a career-high of World No.39, and is quietly establishing herself as a threat to the higher-ranked players.
