Carlos Alcaraz will be
returning to Tokyo to defend the
Japan Open title that he won on debut in 2025 as he plans ahead for his 2026 season.
Right after winning the US Open and taking back the world number one ranking back from his rival Jannik Sinner, the Spaniard quickly got over his disappointment in the Laver Cup as he made the trip to compete in the ATP 500 tournament.
It was not a straightforward title win. Injury concerns in his opening wins against Sebastian Baez and Zizou Bergs were quickly put behind him with an unbelievable performance against Brandon Nakashima. Casper Ruud took the first set off him in the semi-finals but Alcaraz came fighting back before extracting his revenge on Taylor Fritz in the final from his defeat in the Laver Cup
to win a maiden title in Japan. He will be hoping to do the same this year, but it will be a very packed schedule. The US Open will take place from August 31 -September 13 as he looks to exert a lot of effort in defending his title. He will get a brief break before returning to the Laver Cup in London from September 23-29 as Europe look to clinch back their title.
Carlos Alcaraz won the 2025 Japan Open title
The seven-time Grand Slam champion will then look towards the Japan Open which kicks off a busy Asian swing. The tournament will be hosted from September 30- October 6 with the Shanghai Masters commencing a day after that competition ends.
Alcaraz blistering start to 2026
It is already looking ominous for the competition with Alcaraz unbeaten this year while showing off some exceptional form. He went into the Australian Open looking to complete the career Grand Slam and completed it.
He was not fazed to be competing without his long term coach Juan Carlos Ferrero as he played the best he has ever played Down Under, overthrowing his prior form in Australia by getting past the quarterfinal stage for the first time in Melbourne.
The semi-final matchup with Alexander Zverev had him in a precarious position but he managed to get out of it and after going a set down against 10-time champion Novak Djokovic in the final, he raced away to win a magical seventh Grand Slam title and become the youngest player to win all four Grand Slam titles.
He skipped the title defence of the ABN AMRO Open to commit to competing in the Qatar Open. Once more a possible final showdown against Sinner was not on the cards with the Italian losing out in the quarterfinals. It was a boost for the 22-year-old who went on to defeat Arthur Fils in the final in a comprehensive display to take home a 26th ATP title.
The Indian Wells Open and Miami Open are the first Masters 1000 titles of the year with a lot more points on the line for the best players in the world to clinch. Alcaraz will be hoping to continue this unbeaten streak in tournaments that he has had prior success in. The Indian Wells Open will take place from March 4-15.
