Felix Auger-Aliassime lifts racquet.
Alex de Minaur has safely traversed through to the quarter-finals of the ABN AMRO Open after taking down three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka 6-4 6-2.
The two-time runner-up in Rotterdam is looking to go one step further in a tournament he continues to run into the best players in the world in. Back in 2024, he would go on to lose the final against Jannik Sinner before last year he was pipped at the post by Carlos Alcaraz. Now the number one seed, he is the man to beat as he searches for an 11th ATP title.
It would not be a walk in a park against an opponent who possessed a lot of experience and class when on the court. Wawrinka may be playing his final season at the grand old age of 40 but already this year he has shown he can compete with the top players still.
This meant de Minaur needed to be at the top of his game, and he started on the front foot. He would not regret missed break point opportunities for long as he broke in the third game enroute to a 3-1 lead. Wawrinka managed to find a break of his own while doing it in style.
The Aussie was not going to sit around and let his opponent get back in the match as be broke back straight away before holding to love to wrap up set one.
After the Swiss tennis player held in the opening game of set two, de Minaur went up the gears, with Wawrinka unable to keep up. A five game winning streak was headlined by a brace of convincing breaks.
Wawrinka managed to end the rot in the nick of time, but there was so much work to do against a player of de Minaur's calibre. He got over the line with his first match point to book a fifth consecutive quarter-final in Rotterdam.

Auger-Aliassime looking for back-to-back titles

Felix Auger-Aliassime is looking to claim a second title of 2026 after winning the Open Occitanie. He moved one step close to this feat after taking down Hamad Medjedovic 6-4, 6-4.
It did not take long for the former Grand Slam semi-finalist to edge out in front, breaking in the first game of the match as he took authority early on against the lucky loser. Auger-Aliassime first made the final in Rotterdam in 2020 before tasting glory back in 2022. He is looking for more glory in the Netherlands and took the first step in completing that feat by sealing the first set.
The holds of serve continued throughout the second set. Medjedovic got a rare opportunity to nick something from this match, with Auger-Aliassime not letting much slip, The solitary break point opportunity was not taken as the Canadian showed him how it was done a few games later. He then comfortably saw it out as he booked another quarter-final in Rotterdam.

Tsitsipas woes continue

De Minaur could have gone head to head with Stefanos Tsitsipas in the last eight but instead will face home hero Botic Van de Zandschulp after the Dutchman took down Tsitsipas 6-4, 7-6.
The woeful bout of form the Greek player is currently enduring continues to grow worse as he struggles to find his A-game once more. A former Grand Slam finalist and ATP Finals champion, Tsitsipas is currently on a bumpy road with no sight of it ending.
He did manage to wrangle himself ahead in the early stages, clinching a fourth break point in a long game to sneak ahead. This lead would be very premature with Van de Zandshulp breaking straight back to put the set back on serve.

That's how it stayed for a while before a dramatic last couple of games sent the match in the direction of the Dutchman. Van de Zandshulp found a critical break to allow him to serve out the set. He spurned a match point before Tsitsipas was unable to take any of the two break point opportunities that fell at his lap. Van de Zandshulp capitalised and was not going to make another mistake on serve, sealing the first set and giving his rival a mountain to climb.
The second set followed a similar pattern to the first in which the server was normally in control. It was Van de Zandshulp's turn to be wasteful, however, He had the chance to go 5-4 ahead but failed to take one of his two break points in a game of eight deuces. It would go to a tiebreak where Van de Zandshulp streaked ahead from 4-4 to book a spot in a quarter-final in his home land. De Minaur will be a much tougher test than the out of form Tsitsipas who continues to slide down the pecking order.

Humbert sinks home fans hopes while Khachanov falters

Ugo Humbert has been in the news for the wrong reasons after he appeared to be looking at his phone in an important time at the Open Occitanie. He is back int he winning enclosure in the Netherlands after taking down one of their own in the form of Guy Den Ouden 6-4, 6-3.
The indoor hardcourt specialist was looking to get back into his groove, but found himself a break down in the early stages. He managed to claw back the deficit. He then chose the 10th and resultingly last game of the set to break and sneak ahead to the home support's dismay.
Den Ouden had a torrid time in India while representing his country in the Davis Cup qualifier, being knocked out at the first hurdle. He was looking for redemption and had once more broken to go ahead in the set. Humbert would not look back from here, taking the last four games to complete a solid performance.
On the other side of the draw, it was a bad day out for Karen Khachanov whose bad start to 2026 goes on. The fifth seed would go on to lose 6-7(8), 6-3, 3-6 to Jaume Munar.

Despite there being no breaks, the first set would take over an hour. An extremely long and tense tiebreaker was a reason for this. Khachanov would miss the first set point before two others went the way of Munar. The Spaniard took his third chance and made the Russian thinking what could have been.
One break of serve halfway through the second set was enough for Khachanov to get back on level terms. Munar was up for it in the third, winning the last three games after squandering a number of break chances earlier on. He break was sandwiched between two convincing holds as he was able to get over the line in front to secure a second quarter-final of 2026.
