The clay swing has commenced in fine fashion with these next tournaments very likely proving to be pivotal come the ATP Finals in November. A good haul will boost the tennis player's ambitions massively in the ATP Race to Turin from November 15-22, and already some players have stolen a march.
This could be said for Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, albeit they are so far ahead that they can put their feet up knowing a catastrophe would stand in their way of not making it to the final showpiece event of 2026. Only 50 points separate them incredibly after they took a week off after the Sunshine swing, with Alcaraz's early season form keeping him at number one. Both will lead the pack chasing the Monte-Carlo Masters as they look to extend their gap at the top.
There has also been no movement between third and fourth. Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev stay firmly put but both players have also made the trip to Monaco in hopes of picking up more success and valuable points in their quest to appear among the best in Italy.
Novak Djokovic could be pushing a fine line here. While he did qualify for the prior eight tournaments, he has not turned up to the last two, citing injury problems. He is also currently on the sidelines due to a recurring shoulder problem, keeping him out of the Monte-Carlo Masters along with the Miami Open played a couple of weeks ago. These two no-shows at Masters 1000 tournaments will leave him vulnerable to attack from behind.

Movement from Americans

Ben Shelton will also not make the trip, but he is the highest ranked player in this list to have already started up their clay swing. Sticking around in America, he looked to reclaim the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championship title he won back in 2024, but could only manage a quarterfinal despite being the number one seed. The points earned from that earlier than anticipated exit bump him up a spot ahead of Alex de Minaur. The duo both debuted in the tournament last year and will be desperate to return.
Someone who's never qualified is Tommy Paul. It will be quite a story if he makes it for the first time, but his form from the start of last year has seemed to be passed on into 2026 despite a long period sitting on the sidelines. He went on to win the tournament in Houston, avoiding any defeats while his American counterparts tumbled around him to win the ATP 250 event. He now finds himself in eighth position after a seven-place rise.
Arthur Fils has moved down one position after sitting in a provisional spot after reaching the Miami Open semi-final. He will also not participate in the Monte-Carlo Masters, looking to preserve his body ahead of a long clay swing with more Masters 1000 events in store. Felix Auger-Aliassime completes the top 10 as Frances Tiafoe leaps above the Czech pair of Jiri Lehecka and Jakub Mensik into 11th.
Further down the list, some big names have work to do. Taylor Fritz is one of them in 19th. Injuries have been a problem for the American but his form has not been to the standard expected. Not known for his expertise on clay, he has found himself in a spot of bother at this stage of the year but does have time on his side. Lorenzo Musetti is the other player who competed last year that is far off the pace. However, he has not appeared on court as much as Fritz and will hope to get back into the swing of things on a surface that he is remarkably dangerous on, gaining some momentum and crucially points which could see him return to the ATP Finals.
