The
ATP Race to Turin has been updated after the first Masters 1000 of the season, played in
Indian Wells, which left
Jannik Sinner as the new champion. The Italian climbed several positions and returns to No. 2 in the
Race, while runner-up Daniil Medvedev consolidated his position as No. 3 of the season.
Let us remember that the ATP Race to the Finals only considers the points earned in the calendar year – from the first week of the 2026 season. The Race will determine the eight players who will qualify for the ATP Finals at the end of the year, as well as the year-end rankings of the rest of the players.
The Spaniard
Carlos Alcaraz remains the player who has accumulated the most points this season, after adding another 400 to his tally thanks to the semi-finals in Indian Wells. His titles at the
Australian Open and
Doha leave him comfortably at the top of the Race, at a distance of 1,000 points from Sinner.
The Italian had been positioned outside the top-5 in recent weeks, but his first title of the season pushes him back into the top-2. The main one affected was
Novak Djokovic, who dropped from second to fourth place – being overtaken by Sinner (1,910) and Medvedev (1,660). The Serbian owes a large part of his points to his run to the final at the Australian Open, and his early exit in Indian Wells ended up costing him dearly against the current top-3, all of whom reached at least the semi-finals in Indian Wells.
The top-5 is completed by Alexander Zverev, another player who gained positions after Indian Wells. The German – who was 7th in the Race two weeks ago – now moves up into the top-5 after reaching the semi-finals. He sits just 100 points behind Djokovic, and with the Serbian absent in
Miami, it will be Zverev’s opportunity to climb further positions once again.
De Minaur and Shelton fall out of top-5
There were two players who were affected by their early defeats in Indian Wells. Both Alex de Minaur and Ben Shelton were inside the top-5 of the Race a couple of weeks ago, but both ended up being eliminated in the Round of 32 in Tennis Paradise. After adding just 65 points from their runs to the third round, they dropped just outside the top-5 – still within the qualification zone for Turin.
Further back, in 8th place, sits Felix Auger-Aliassime – who as of today would be the last player qualified for the ATP Finals. The Canadian maintains his place among the top eight despite a surprising third-round defeat to Arthur Fils. Just behind him remains in 9th place Jakub Mensik, another player who did not manage to go deep in the first Masters of the season, and was eliminated in the third round by Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
Closing out the top-10 is Alexander Bublik, who recovers one position – despite only reaching the third round in Indian Wells. It was one round more than the Argentine Tomas Martin Etcheverry, who drops out of the top-10 after a strong South American clay swing and will remain waiting for possible slips from his rivals higher up in the rankings.
Tien and Fils climb in ATP Race standing
Several players took advantage of Indian Wells to produce strong runs that reflect the good form they are bringing into the season. Such is the case of Learner Tien, who reached the quarter-finals and jumped from No. 21 to No. 12 in the Race. The 20-year-old American is just a couple of wins away from breaking into the top-10 of the year, and a strong run at the Miami Open would place him even higher in the Race standings.
Another player who climbed several positions was Arthur Fils, who after his run to the final in Doha had already broken into the top-30. This time, the 21-year-old now sits at No. 19 following another quarter-final run in Indian Wells for the second consecutive year.
Others who produced good campaigns in Indian Wells include Cameron Norrie and Jack Draper, both quarter-finalists at the tournament. The British players and former Indian Wells champion nevertheless managed several consecutive wins and collected a solid number of points. Norrie sits at No. 30 in the Race, while Draper climbs rapidly into the top-60 – after missing a large part of the season.
