After spending most of his year injured or being criticized for his off-court activities taking precedence,
Matteo Berrettini returned to some of his best at Wimbledon.
Boris Becker believes that he has now realigned his focus with tennis now at the fore.
"After the final reached at Wimbledon in 2021, I think that the excellent results obtained and partly the injuries have put a little out of focus with respect to goals," said Becker to Gazzetta dello Sport.
"Now it is evident how he has brought tennis back to the centre, at the top of his priorities. I wish him a successful future because he deserves it."
But as well as Berrettini, he also singled out his compatriot
Jannik Sinner for praise believing he saw improvements and that it wasn't that Sinner lost to Djokovic, more being that Novak won it.
"If I had to analyze the course of the match in depth, then I would say that it is more Jannik who lost the game that not Novak to have won it," he continued.
"Sinner immediately gave up his serve in the first two sets and seemed to enter the court excessively shy and you certainly cannot afford this when you find yourself facing a great champion. He had a set point available and should have exploited it in the best possible way and instead he made some mistakes.
I'll be honest: compared to last year I confided that I noticed more improvements in his game but Jannik can still be proud of his progress in the tournament."
